The Hassan II Mosque and its tall green-tiled minaret on the Casablanca seafront, seen from the corniche promenade at low tide

Mosque on the Atlantic · Casablanca, Morocco

Hassan II Mosque

Morocco's largest mosque: a prayer hall for 25,000 under a roof that slides open, cedar from the Middle Atlas, and a minaret that rises 210 m over the ocean.

Tickets & tour times

The Hassan II Mosque is the great Casablanca mosque, on the Atlantic shore between the port and El Hank Lighthouse. Part of it stands over the water, on a platform reclaimed from the sea. It was built for King Hassan II and paid for largely by public donations from Moroccans.

It is a working mosque and one of the very few in Morocco that non-Muslims can enter. Visitors go inside only on a guided tour, through the prayer hall, the minaret hall and the ablutions hall below.

Visiting the Hassan II Mosque: questions

Can non-Muslims visit the Hassan II Mosque?

Yes, but only on the guided tour; there is no entry on your own. The esplanade outside is open to everyone.

What is the dress code?

Shoulders and knees covered, for men and women: no shorts and no sleeveless tops. Shoes come off at the door, and bags are handed out to carry them. A headscarf is not usually required, but it does no harm to bring one.

How long does the tour take?

45 minutes to an hour inside. Allow extra time for the ticket office before and the esplanade after.

Can I take photos inside?

Yes, photos are fine on the tour. Video cameras and other recording or sound devices are not allowed inside the mosque.

Is the Hassan II Mosque worth visiting?

Yes: the Casablanca mosque is one of the few in Morocco that let non-Muslims see the inside, and the tour takes under an hour, short enough for a stopover or a day trip from Marrakech. Getting there
